What is silicon diselenide?

Silicon diselenide (SiSe2) is a chemical compound composed of silicon and selenium. It belongs to the group of chalcogenides, which are compounds containing any of the elements oxygen, sulfur, selenium, and tellurium. Silicon diselenide is a solid, yellowish-brown powder that is insoluble in water. It has a molecular weight of 190.00 g/mol and a density of 3.674 g/cm³. It has a melting point of 654°C and a boiling point of 808°C.

Silicon diselenide is mainly used in the manufacturing of thin film transistors (TFTs) for displays and other electronic devices. It can also be used as a lubricant additive and a semiconductor material. Silicon diselenide is a promising candidate for many electronic applications, as it has high electron mobility and can be deposited as a thin film on substrates. However, it is relatively expensive and has limited availability compared to other semiconductors like silicon.
